The video for “In the 1970’s” (above) is brilliant. Have you always felt free to incorporate humor into your work? I’m impressed when people have the courage not to take themselves too seriously.

I get asked this question a lot and, to most people’s frustration, I have to say it comes down to experience. A good DJ specializes in two things: song selection and timing. That skill is only learned by DJing an insane amount of hours in front of hundreds of different audiences, observing and understanding what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t.

This should come as no surprise, but if you’re trying to stay hydrated, you’ve got to lay off the booze. Excess alcohol consumption decreases the body’s anti-diuretic hormone production, which is what helps the body reabsorb water. In other words, it causes your body to lose more fluid than normal through increased urination.

Songwriters like me often draw from personal life and experience, or from the experiences of those around us; which is probably true of almost any writer in any literary format. But we may also get inspired by and invested in the characters in TV shows, films, and books as well.
